The honest answer is somewhere between $5,000 and $80,000, which is not a helpful range. So let me break it down by what we actually see.
An elopement or very small ceremony (just the two of you, maybe a few witnesses) runs $3,000 to $8,000. That covers an officiant, photographer for two hours, a simple floral arrangement, and our coordination. No venue rental needed because most beach ceremonies use public land with a permit that costs under $100.
A wedding with 20 to 40 guests is where most of our couples land. Total budget is usually $15,000 to $35,000. The biggest chunks are the venue ($2,000 to $8,000), catering ($80 to $200 per person), photography ($3,500 to $6,000), and florals ($2,000 to $5,000). Our planning fee sits on top at 15% of total budget for the Classic package.
Larger weddings, 60 guests and up, typically run $40,000 to $80,000 or more. At that scale, catering alone can be $15,000 to $30,000. Rentals (tables, chairs, linens, lighting) add $3,000 to $8,000. A good videographer is another $3,000 to $6,000. Live music, $2,000 to $5,000.
Here is what trips people up: the venue site fee is often the smallest line item. Catering and bar service are almost always the largest. If you need to cut costs, cutting the guest list by 10 people saves more than downgrading your photographer.
Flight and hotel costs for you and your guests are separate from the wedding budget, but they matter for planning. Direct flights from the West Coast run $400 to $700 per person round trip. Hotels in South Maui average $250 to $500 per night during peak season.
One thing I tell every couple: set aside 10% of your budget as a buffer. Something always comes up. A tent rental because the forecast changed, a shuttle because parking is tighter than expected, extra florals because the ceremony space is bigger than it looked in photos. That buffer means you do not have to stress about it.
