Getting a group of people from Alaska to Maui is more straightforward than it sounds, but it does take some coordination. Here is how it works. Most guests will fly out of Anchorage (ANC) or Fairbanks (FAI). Anchorage has direct seasonal service to Kahului (OGG) on Alaska Airlines, typically running October through April. Those flights fill up fast during holiday season, so tell your guests to book 6 to 8 months ahead if your wedding is in December, January, or February. From Fairbanks, the standard route is Fairbanks to Anchorage to Kahului, or Fairbanks to Seattle to Kahului.
Hotel logistics depend on where your venue is. South Maui (Wailea, Kihei) is the most common spot for weddings, and it has the widest range of accommodations, from luxury resorts to condo rentals. We negotiate group rates when possible and set up a booking page so your guests can reserve rooms under your wedding block. For groups split between budget levels, mixing a resort block with a few vacation rentals in the same area works well. Everyone is within a 10-minute drive of each other.
Rental cars are recommended unless your guests plan to stay at a resort and not leave the property. Maui does not have Uber or Lyft in any reliable way outside of Kahului and Wailea. We include rental car recommendations, parking details for your venue, and a map of the island with restaurant picks in the guest travel page we build for every wedding. For the wedding day itself, we arrange shuttle service between hotels and the venue so nobody has to drive or worry about parking after a few mai tais.
